Mixing it Up

Last week boyfriend and I made the drive to Chicago, where we dined at one of our favorite vegetarian restaurants, The Chicago Diner. I had Buddha's Karma Burger - so so yummy!

After we ate, I conveniently remembered I was nearly out of silkscreen ink and there just so happened to be a Blick Art Store nearby. What a score for me and my memory!

I'm not a fan of ink colors right out of the tub, so as soon as I got home I started mixing and stirring. Once, I attempted to use a kitchen mixer to mix up some new colors, and although it seemed like a really great idea at first, it ended with the most beautiful shade of mint green ink splattered all over my kitchen. Now I stick to a chop stick and my hand.

I got a bunch of vinyl screen printed with the new ink colors, here are just few....

Flying Pigeon

Recently I made a "goal wall" in my studio, where I have written my goals on index cards and posted them for easy viewing. Most of them are business oriented - time frames for certain projects and the like.

There is but one, that is a non-business goal, "Flying Pigeon".

My dear sweet mother, for Christmas, surprised me with a 4 month unlimited pass to my favorite yoga studio here in Bloomington, and I've been making great use of it. The class I frequent, incorporates this pose into each class and, while most of us try the pose we don't quite manage to get our legs off the ground. Though, now that I've inked this goal in Sharpie and tacked it up on the goal wall, I think it is just the motivation I need to lift off into flight in the very near future.

San Francisco

Boyfriend and I are heading to San Francisco tomorrow, and I'm so excited. This will not only be my first time going San Francisco, but also my first time going to the great state of California. Alcatraz, SF MOMA, Ghirardelli tour, Haight Ashbury, The Golden Gate Bridge...we're doing it all!

That said, I've decided to leave my Etsy shop open, though I won't be able to ship anything until I return next Thursday, the 17th.

New Bags in the Shop

Yesterday I got three new bags listed on etsy. I'm finding it works much better to finish a couple of bags at a time, photograph, and list them on Etsy, instead of trying to work in really big batches.

First up, is our Rust and Gray Chevron Stripe Envelope Clutch, complete with drop lock closure.

This bag is so mod it's not even funny, it's our Black and White Chevron Stripe Faux Tote.

Last, but not least, our Geometric Stripe Tote.

Yesterday I finished a couple of new bags that I am so excited about. I love how the patchwork is turning out and I can't wait to get the rest of my photos edited so I can post some more pictures.

This white tote is made from vinyl and has an inside zipper pocket on one side and 3 divided open pockets on the opposite side. There is no excuse to lose anything in this bag!

Patchwork Projects

I got started on some new patchwork bags today. Having a rotary blade and a nice quilting ruler made the job a breeze. After much consideration, I've decided the next investment I will be making is a cutting table. I'm too old for this sitting-on-the-floor-all-day nonsense. Or maybe I'll pack up my fabric and tools and set up a temporary work space at Joann, and use their fancy schmancy cutting tables.

Dog Days

I've been meaning to write this blog, well, for a week now. A week ago we adopted a cute little pup from the animal shelter and I think she was just what our household was missing. Her name is Lou, and we think she is Dachshund and maybe a little Basset Hound. She sure is sweet and we're pretty crazy about her. I will do my best to keep this blog about crafty business things, but I will probably have to sneak in some Lou pictures every once in a while.

She really knows how to ham it up for the camera, huh?

We are in the midst of house training and teaching her some tricks. It's going pretty well, but if anyone has any dog training secrets I'd love to hear them.

This week I was struck by a craving for limeades, so I drove way across town to the only Sonic in Bloomington and wound up with, at best, a mediocre limeade. Well, we all know that if you want something done right you have to do it yourself, so off Kroger I went. Needless to say, the homemade limeades are so yum and they were just what I needed.

We got to Brooklyn last night and went to see a live recording of The Moth podcast, hosted by Mike Birbiglia, one of our favorite comedians. It was quite enjoyable.

I had pizza yesterday for dinner and again for lunch today. It was yum!

The Whitney's Biennial show was fantastic.

We went on a harbor sail tonight and got up close and personal with Lady Liberty.

I've got to get up bright and early for Renegade in the morning!

We leave for Brooklyn next Thursday, so last night I decided to start packing. This will be the first craft show I'm flying to, so I've been nervous about fitting everything in and didn't want to wait to the last minute to pack. I have two large suitcases and I think I just about have everything packed, including displays. I will have to take a carry on with my clothes in it, thank goodness summer clothes don't take up very much room.

We will have a couple extra days to hang around NYC and we'll definitely be hitting up the Whitney Museum, which is my all time favorite art museum. Boyfriend really wants to head out to Ellis Island and maybe Statue of Liberty. I can't wait to eat some pizza...I hope to eat at least one piece everyday! What are your favorite things to do in NYC?

I also got my Etsy shop up and running today after a very long time in vacation mode.

I've only listed these two yum yums so far, but there's more to come.

Renegade Austin Wrap Up

Renegade Austin was amazing! We had so much fun at the first ever Renegade in Austin and meeting up with such amazing crafters and crafty shoppers!

There was a marching band that stopped in front of my booth so I had a pretty great view.

Pretty Pretty Nails

I drove home yesterday and although I've been really busy working on new displays for my booth, my mom and I took a little time to get our nails done today. We went to this place where they have stickers that fit on your nails and then you hold them under a heat lamp and it is kind of like shrink wrap. We both got the flower design cause it was the cutest!

I feel like all the caffeine is really starting to pay off. I've gotten so much done this week for Renegade Austin. I'm planning to head back home to Tulsa early next week where my miter waits for me in my mom's garage. I'm planning to make a few new display pieces for my table. And I think breaking up the ridiculously long drive from Bloomington to Austin into two legs will make it a little more bearable.

Crafty Supermarket Success!

I headed over to Cincinnati this weekend to participate in the Crafty Supermarket. There was a wonderful turnout, great venue, and I met lots of amazing crafters, all in all a great show!

and yes I did get it autographed!

Yellowberry was right across from my booth so I got a good luck at all her lovelies. I finally had to go over and pick out some yum yums for myself. I ended up with this necklace and earrings.

This Saturday is the Crafty Supermarket in Cincinnati. Other than layovers in the airport, I've never seen the sights of Cincinnati and I've been studying the Design Sponge city guide for some good restaurant suggestions.

I've got a lot of new goods to put on display this weekend. Here are just a few of them.

One of the organizers of the Crafty Supermarket, Grace Dobush, recently published a book called Crafty Superstar. I browsed through it the other day at Barns & Noble but opted to wait and buy it this weekend directly from her. Maybe I can get an autographed copy.

This weekend is our first craft show of the year, Bloomington Handmade Market. I finished all my goods up yesterday and now I'm just trying to get all the photos edited and get all my display stuff together.

Chicago Spring Break

Last week boyfriend and I went to Chicago for his spring break. We both love Chicago and we saw it all, I think. We took in the Contemporary Art Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Adler Planetarium, and The Lincoln Park Zoo.

The weather was absolutely perfect so it made the Lincoln Park zoo a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. I even made a few friends.

I didn't make friends with this guy, I just gazed at him from a distance.

Of course we had to take the mandatory pictures of ourselves in the mirror bean thing in Millennium Park.

One of the highlights was eating our first hot dogs from a street vendor. We headed over to the observatory one morning thinking we would be able to find a little cafe for some breakfast. We found nothing around, well nothing except a hot dog vendor. Since we are both vegetarian we weren't considering it until we got closer and saw that there was a "veggie dog" listed on the menu. I got mine "Chicago Style".... mustard, celery salt, onions, tomatoes, and topped off with a dill pickle spear. It was awesome!

We had an amazing view from our hotel room, where I took dozens of night shots.

Can't wait to go back!

Winter Getaway!

Oh there is nothing like Mexico in February! My mom and I scooted off south of the border last month for some fun times and sunshine. It was so delightful to laze about in the sun and I actually got to read a few books, which is rare.

I've been so domestic this week. Usually for Christmas presents, boyfriend and I put together gift baskets for our families that include baked goods and such. This year my contribution is banana bread and chocolate chip cookies.

I could only find one mixer attachment and my poor mixer was not very happy about it.

Ta-da! The whole house smelled like bananas and we of course had to taste test a loaf right out of the oven. Needless to say it passed our test.

I wanted to post some of the rad things I bought at Renegade this year.

My booth was right next to Megan Lee Designs, so I had plenty of time to check out all her awesome goodies. I ended up with a couple of thing from her, but since I'm too lazy to take pictures of all my stuff I'm just going to use her photos.

I got this sassy little top....

and this scarf. She also has a t-shirt that says "Midwest is Best" which I thought was so cute.

I am addicted to hoodies so when I found Holly Hue's booth, I knew I would be walking away with one, though it was really hard to pick one out because they were all so cool. The one I got is brown with mustard color stripes.

I usually buy a couple pieces of jewelry at craft show, but this time I only bought a necklace from Sofia Masri. Her porcelain necklaces are so gorgeous.

This past week I participated in my last craft fair of the season, sniff sniff. Renegade Holiday Craft show in Chicago was so much fun. I even got to hang with my mom in the city for a few days after the show.

Fabric Shopping In Chicago

Good thing I ate a good breakfast this morning because we went to the absolute most gigantic fabric store today to do some supply shopping.

When we first walked in I didn't realized how huge the place is and I kept finding more and more rooms of fabric. There were 3 floors with multiple rooms on each floor. Some rooms were completely filled with trims, it was overwhelming to say the least.

I found a big box of buttons that looked perfect for the my cuffs.

I dug through this bin of zippers for a very long time and found 68 of them that I couldn't live without. There were rows and rows of boxes full of zippers behind this bin.

I am totally in love with this place!

Good Music for a Long Drive

I spent 10 hours in the car today driving from Bloomington to Tulsa and it rained the entire way. Let's just say it was quite a bummer. The only thing that got me through was some good tunes that I sang really loudly to. Do you remember that show a few years ago, I can't remember if it was on VH1 or MTV, but they put hidden cameras in a person's car and caught them singing in their car. I spent some time considering how horrifying for me, but probably hilarious for everyone else, that would be if they had a hidden camera in my car.

You can never ever go wrong with the Pixies or Madonna.

Maybe, probably yes. I have got a crazy season of craft shows coming up. I have 2 weeks until my next show and I'm starting to make some big time progress. It does get daunting, though, trying to finish huge batches of products. Thank goodness for Starbucks!

Here are some goodies I scored last weekend. I was completely blown away by so many of the vendors at Renegade Chicago. It was really hard to pick my favorites.

Krista Peel's booth was right behind mine and the entire weekend I had to keep peeking over at her earrings. They are absolutely gorgeous - so many colors and shapes. I picked these two pairs that I couldn't live without. Check out some of her other earrings here.

The Small Object's booth was next to me, and my mom bought this canister for my boyfriend. We thought it kind of looked like him.

Grace from ZN Creative Arts and I did a trade. I picked this little lovely from her booth.

I love that it's reversible.

I also made a trade with Katie from DollyBird Design for this amazing necklace.

I was going to get boyfriend a shirt but I was completely overwhelmed by the selection. I found Nate Duval's booth and knew this print would be just the thing. Boyfriend was happy with my selection!

Renegade Craft Fair!

Renegade Chicago was a success!!! The weather couldn't have been nicer, tons of people and tons of really cool handmade goods. I've never participated in a craft fair this big before, there were 300 vendors and I was only able to take a quick power walk around the fair but there was just so much cool stuff that it was a little overwhelming! I met some awesome crafters and made a few trades, which are my fav! Monday I took an extremely long nap and today I'm trying to get back in work mode.

I'm heading to Chicago tomorrow to participate in Renegade Craft Fair this weekend. I'm super jazzed because I get to see my mom, and Chicago is one of my favorite cities, and I'm going to get to meet tons of super awesome crafters, AND I'm getting a massage tomorrow! I finished crafting yesterday and I've spent today counting everything and packing it all up. I have so so so much stuff to carry, but in this case that is a really good thing I guess. Renegade Craft Fair is now less than one week away and I'm working my tail off to get tons of stuff made. I finally feel like I'm making progress and I know I will definitely have everything done that I want to get done. I finally had time to take some photos of new bags I'm working on. Working on a Saturday night when you live in a college town, now that's true dedication.

We moved into our new townhouse a week ago and finally got our internet hooked up yesterday. It has been a long week of camping out at Starbucks to use their internet. Here is a little recap of our move from Tulsa, OK to Bloomington, IN.

If you are in the market for a bookcase let me make a suggestion, DO NOT buy this bookcase from Ikea. I will say, though, that the 2nd time we put it together it went a little more smoothly than the first time.

This is what happens when you wash cheaply made rugs. Boyfriend put these in with a load of his clothes and now there are little poofs of orange inside his pants pockets.

T-Shirt Trade

Boyfriend and I made a move from Tulsa, OK to Bloomington, IN this week and we are still without internet. I kind of think that there should be internet wherever I need it, but would you believe there is not one unlocked wi-fi network in our apartment complex. On top of that no one is dumb enough to use "hoosier" or "password" as there password, we know because we tried. That is about as far as our computer hacking skills reach. So until Wednesday, we will be camped out at either Barnes & Noble or Starbucks for an hour or two everyday.

A few weeks ago Katie from My Own Little Universe decided to do a t-shirt trade. I have to say bartering is maybe the best thing ever, I would be so excited if I could pay my rent in bags or go to the movies and pay with cuffs.

Helen

My sewing machine sits right in front of a window where I can look out on these gorgeous bushes. Okay, so they are not that great but I noticed something on Monday...

a gigantic spider that I have named Helen. I am no great fan of bugs but I have become quite fascinated with Helen. Monday and Tuesday she was quite lethargic, but today I finally saw her move. Let me tell you that Helen could be a speed racer, she is very quick and I have a front row seat as she wraps her prey in web stuff and then devours it. These pictures are all taken through the glass of my window, I wish I could get a better pic, but I am absolutely not going anywhere near that thing.

I haven't taken a ruler out to get an official measurement, but from the tip of her top of her legs to the tip of her bottoms legs I'd say she's about a 4 incher. I would like to try and identify her but since I can only see her underside it might be difficult.

When you have this much basil, there is only one thing you can do....make a whole lot of pesto. This is my mom's plant, I would never be capable of growing a plant this big. Luckily she is super nice and because I helped make the pesto she let me keep some!

Weekend Blog

Friday was a great mail day, I got my Odd Bunny from Koo & Poppet! I love opening packages and this one was wrapped up so nicely, I had to take a picture.

"Beru" came with a name tag and a few likes and dislikes so we could get to know one another. I think we're gonna be good friends because I too, dislike cheaters and I think crackers are pretty alright.

Even boyfriend is quite taken with Beru.

He has already found his favorite chair.

We are moving in a week and a half and we finally got our act together and started packing. We made it our goal to take apart our Ikea book shelf and pack all of our books today. I love books, but today I kind of just wanted to throw them all in the garbage instead of pack, move, and unpack them. We did find some good small boxes to pack them in so they won't be too heavy, there will just be 45 boxes of books to carry. Oh what fun!

This bookshelf was a complete bitch to put together and I was really dreading taking it apart but it ended up taking less than 10 minutes. The best part was that boyfriend and I were still speaking at the end of the process. Seriously, if you want to test the strength of your relationship, try assembling Ikea furniture together.

Bloomington Here We Come

A while back boyfriend found out that he had been accepted to Indiana University and last week he got his student loans finalized so that means we are gonna be moving to Bloomington in 2 weeks and no, not one box has been packed.

A few weekends ago we drove to Bloomington to check it out and look for an apartment. We signed a lease last week and have a town house waiting for us. In the complex there are 2 pools!! After a long day of unloading a moving truck I know what I'll be doing.

Bloomington is quite a bit smaller than Tulsa but its seems pretty cool. This is lame, but I'm really excited about all the restaurants. There is a street downtown where all the houses for about 2 blocks have been turned into restaurants....Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, yum yum yum! Also there is a vegetarian/vegan place that's pretty awesome. Yes, so I love food.

We had a great time at Dfest this weekend. Our friends Stela and Riley stayed with us and Mary Beth from Dwelling Spaces hooked us up with Dfest tickets, so all in all a fantastic weekend. Once again Riley's band, Mayola, stole the show. I think the photo booth pics pretty much sum up the weekend.

Check out my rad wristlets. Its like wearing a watch on your wrist, but not. Though, you could put a watch in your wristlet along with some Fun Dip. Now that I think about it, the wristlets are a lot like Fun Dip, except you can't eat them.
