Adventures in Dress Making Part 1

I've been really wanting to give making clothes a try lately but as I have admitted before, I cannot read a sewing pattern to save my life. Luckily my mom is a genius when it comes to decoding the cryptic instructions.

Simplicity huh? I beg to differ.

Ahhh, a successful cut out. And I even had enough to make a neck pillow, no just kiddin' that's the collar silly.

Gatherin'! My mom taught me a new way to gather which is pretty rad. Just sew on the longest stitch length and leave a thread tail at the end and then all you gotta do it pull on the tail. Voila!

I didn't get to finish the dress last night so I hope to get it done today. I'm dying to wear my dress with my new cowboy boots!

P.S. I'm updating my etsy shop and I'll be adding more things today. Come on down and take a look!

  1. Your dress is going to be so cute. Glad you have a Genius mom !! Will see you this afternoon so you can finish your dress.

  2. oops.... you changed something yesterday so my comment came up from Felix and Jayne... I can't figure out how to change it back... guess I'm not really a genius !!

  3. Can't wait to see it! Sewing patterns confuse me too.. but looks like you got the hang of it!

  4. Two thumbs WAY up for even trying. I am a complete sewing idiot and gave up after I failed miserably in Home Ec in the 8th grade. I would love to sew, but I fear it more than I do the boogey man!
