Helen

My sewing machine sits right in front of a window where I can look out on these gorgeous bushes. Okay, so they are not that great but I noticed something on Monday...

a gigantic spider that I have named Helen.  I am no great fan of bugs but I have become quite fascinated with Helen.  Monday and Tuesday she was quite lethargic, but today I finally saw her move.  Let me tell you that Helen could be a speed racer, she is very quick and I have a front row seat as she wraps her prey in web stuff and then devours it.  These pictures are all taken through the glass of my window, I wish I could get a better pic, but I am absolutely not going anywhere near that thing.

I haven't taken a ruler out to get an official measurement, but from the tip of her top of her legs to the tip of her bottoms legs I'd say she's about a 4 incher.  I would like to try and identify her but since I can only see her underside it might be difficult.

Helen found some yummy dinner!

  4. I love that you named it Helen. I had an eccentric great aunt named Helen. She didn't spin webs or eat bugs but was also facinating.

  5. Every picture made me imagine how scary it would be if Helen were to crawl on my arm.

  8. Hello, Helen! My grandparents have spiders like that in the bushes by their house too. I always stayed far away from those bushes when I was playing at their house as a child. ;-)

  10. It's always interesting to observe spiders... through a glass of course! To be honest I loathe spiders, they're so creepy but I like your photos here. Funny you named her =)
